It’s been a week of major changes for pop star Britney Spears who announced on Friday that she and longtime boyfriend Jason Trawlick have called off their engagement. The news followed closely on the heels of her decision to leave the popular television show The X-Factor  to focus on her music career and upcoming 8^th studio album.

Just hours after confirming that she and Simon Cowell were parting ways she released a statement confirming the split with Holbrook native Trawick.

“Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I’ll always adore him and we will remain great friends.” Trawick released a statement as well saying, “I love and cherish her and her boys, and we will be close forever.” According to Spear’s publicist the decision to split was a difficult one but was mutually agreed on by “two mature adults.” At the time of the announcement Trawick also went to court to officially resign as Spears’ co-conservator, a roll he has played since February of 2008.

Britney Spears has decided not to return for a second season of Simon Cowell’s The X-Factor. The news comes as no surprise to sources close to the show who were disappointed with last season’s lackluster ratings and Spears’ increasingly bizarre behavior.

Spears decided to jump ship before she was asked to leave by Cowell, who has been less than pleased by what he considered to be “boring” critiques by Spears at the judges table. Spears was paid $15 million for this past season’s work and will now be focusing her time and energy of her music career and upcoming 8th album. No word yet as to who will be replacing Spears at the judges table and the show hasn’t officially announced the pop star’s departure. The news comes just two months after Simon Cowell announced that judge L.A. reed was also planning to leave the show.

All has appeared well for struggling pop star Britney Spears in recent months as she has resurrected her career with a stint on the show “The X-Factor” but a source close to Spears says that she is showing signs of unstable behavior and her boss Simon Cowell is less than pleased.

“She acts like she has a different contract than everyone else,” the source says. “She shows up late, she wanders around aimlessly and she is in her own world. She wasn’t ready for this responsibility.”

Simon Cowell, creator of “The X-Factor” is also disappointed that Britney Spears has not caused the rating boost he was expecting and now her job may be in jeopardy.

Her unusual behavior also caused problems on the set of her new perfume commercial. The singer reportedly first asked producers to fly in Vanilla Ice to perform a duet with her and then wanted exotic animals brought in to appear in the video. When those demands could not be met she went on to insist on doing her own makeup.

It was a big night on ‘The X Factor’ when a double elimination had Arin Ray and Beatrice Miller packing their bags and heading home. This leaves only 8 contestants in the running as season 2 heads towards the finals. Co-hosts Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez revealed that the two young performers were at the bottom of the score board based on viewer votes and Ray was sent home immediately for coming in tenth place. Britney Spears tried to soften the blow of rejection by telling her: “You know, I think you should just take this as a learning experience and this isn’t the last people are going to hear from you.”

Miller was sent home after judges Spears, Cowell, L.A. Reid and Demi Levato came to a 3-1 vote to send her home instead of other low scorer of the evening CeCe Frey. Spears was again kind in her parting words saying: “Sweetheart, you are so young. You have so far to go. This is just the beginning for you, and the song you sang tonight was excruciating and hard, and you’re a true star in my eyes and you will always be.”

Its case closed for Sam Lutfi today as Superior Court Judge Suzanne Bruguera has ruled that he was unable to prove his case against the parents of Britney Spears. Lutfi’s lawyers, who had been suing the Spears family for libel and breach of contract, agreed with the judge that they did not have enough evidence to hand the case over to a jury after closing arguments on Tuesday afternoon.

The court case has been a media circus for the Spears family as Lutfi made claims about Britney’s past behavior and substance abuse problems but it appears that they have been able to weather the storm. Lutfi took Lynne Spears to court on charges of libel and claimed that Jamie Spears had hit him at Britney’s home shortly after her parents were given conservatorship over the troubled pop star.

Lutfi also claimed that he had a verbal contract with Britney that made him her manager and as such he was owed 15% of the profits from her ‘Blackout’ album and several other projects she worked on in 2007. Unfortunately for Lutfi he was unable to produce any concrete evidence to back up his claims and without a legally binding agreement with Spears he is unable to collect any fees for his managerial services.

The Spear’s family expressed relief today that they could finally put this part of their lives behind them. Jamie spoke with TMZ today, telling them that while he was happy that the judge had dismissed the case he was disappointed that he was unable to take the stand and tell his own version of events. He also expressed how painful it was to relive such a dark time in Britney’s life in such a public fashion. As for Britney’s conservatorship, Jamie told TMZ that he does believe that it will come to an end in the near futures but did not reveal when that might actually take place.

In one of the weirdest twists yet in the testimony of manger Sam Lutfi, it appears that Courtney Love, former lead singer for Hole and widow of Kurt Cobain, may be planning on taking her story to New York City’s Great White Way. As part of his court case against the parents of Britney Spears for breach of contract and libel, as well as unpaid fees, Lutfi testified that “[Courtney Love and I] are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue, based on her life and Kurt Cobain’s.”  This testimony came as part of Lutfi’s attempt to prove that he has musical industry experience and was indeed qualified to act as Spear’s manager. Lutfi claims that he “currently co-manages Ms. Love,” calling her “an accomplished actress.”

A spokesperson for Courtney Love has no comment thus far on any of Lutfi’s claims but a source close to Love was more forthcoming acknowledging that Lutfi is indeed co-managing the singer turned actress. The source went on to say that “She’s been talking about doing a movie or play about her life with Kurt for a long time. So far nothing has materialized from it.” Love has long been accused of exploiting her relationship with the former Nirvana singer for financial gain. Back in 2006 she sold off a significant portion of her rights to Nirvana’s publishing catalog, which had been left to her and her daughter Frances Bean when Cobain committed suicide in 1994.

This revelation is just one of the many that have emerged since Sam Lutfi took the stand. Earlier this week he revealed that Spears shaved her head for a drug test, fearing that traces of illegal substances would be found in her hair.  Britney will not be appearing as part of the trial as she has been ruled incompetent to take the stand.

Sam Lutfi, former manager for Miss Britney Spears took the stand again yesterday to explain to the court why the singer famously shaved her head back in February of 2007. Lutfi is testifying as part of a breach-of-contract and defamation case against Spears’ parents and he continues to claim that he was protective of Spears and attempted to keep her sober and her career on track. Lutfi told the court that Spears shaved her head for fear that she would fail an upcoming drug test. “She told me she wanted to get clean but she was struggling with it. I told her it was very difficult to kick a drug habit…but I told her she needed to do it. I explained to her that society was not going to tolerate a mother with two kids abusing drugs.”

Surprising the defense is not arguing with Lutfi on this point. Attorneys for both Spears and her parents admitted in court that Spears was using drugs at the time of the incident but they are contending the fact that Lutfi claims to have been her manager. According to Lutfi’s testimony the two met at a club back in 2007 when Spears approached him and asked him for his hat. Shortly after Spears began to text and call him on a regular basis while she was struggling with her custody battle with ex Kevin Federline. By June of 2007, Spears was referring to Lutfi as her manager and bringing him along to meetings with her record label. Lutfi claims that Spears had fired her entire management team and cut off contact with her parents when she offered him the job as her manager, making 15% of her income. Lutfi acknowledges that he never had a formal contract in writing with Spears as to their arrangement but maintains that they had an oral contract that he would manager her for 4 years. Spears herself will not be appearing in court for the case as a judge ruled her incompetent to testify.
