After thirteen long years of marriage, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are separating. Both actor’s reps confirmed to E.T: “Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.” Neither have officially filed for divorce or legal separation at the moment.
The couple have not been photographed with each other since April 2013. People Magazine reports that sources say “stress” has taken a toll on their marriage. In 2010, Douglass revealed he had battled with cancer, while Zeta has bipolar II disorder. People noted that Douglas’ comments about the cause of his throat cancer. He made mention that he contracted the virus during oral sex, which did not go over well with the actress. “He gave very candid interviews about his sexual past that she really bristled at. She was not happy about his comments and that sort of got the ball rolling in terms of the split,” stated Peter Castro, deputy editor at People. Also, the incarceration of Douglas’ older son, Cameron, played a role in the tension between the pair.
People also report that Douglas has been vacationing on a yacht off the coast of Sardinia and Zeta is in New York. The couple has two children together Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.
