Some of the biggest celebrities were on hand to watch Obama get inaugurated for his second term in office on MLK day, making for a star studded event that saw politicians and entertainers standing side by side to watch the president take the oath.
Beyonce and her husband Shawn Carter, also know as Jay-Z, drew one of the largest cheers from the crowd when they first walked on the stage, and she went on to perform a chilling rendition of the national anthem. James Taylor started the musical performances off right, playing his guitar while singing “America the Beautiful.” Kelly Clarkson was up next and she performed her own version of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”
But it was Beyonce’s performance that stole the show.
Beyonce flexed her golden pipes while singing the national anthem that left the crowd roaring long after she finished, and made a fan in Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas who applauded eagerly after she finished performing. But those weren’t the only stars present.
Katy Perry and John Mayer were both present and they even sat side by side, with Perry in an orange-striped coat and wide hat, and Mayer in dark sunglasses. Singer-songwriter Ke$sha was there, too, among many more stars.
