Oxygen Network decided not to go forward with project “All My Babies Mamas”, which would potentially follow Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo and his unconventional family life. Oxygen sparked a lot of controversy for considering the series that would feature the 10 baby mother’s of Lo’s 11 children.
Pre-production clips of the series had leaked on YouTube showing Shawty Lo referring to his children’s mothers as “Jealous Baby Mama”, “Baby Mama From Hell”, and “Shady Baby Mama”.
The Parents Television Council called the show “grotesquely irresponsible and exploitative.” Adding, “if Oxygen moves forward with the program, we will be contacting every corporate sponsor that buys advertising time on the Oxygen network to hold them accountable as well.”
In a statement to CNN, Oxygen said that “All My Babies Mamas” is no longer in development. “As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special,” said Oxygen. “We will continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.”
Since the announcement of the series, petitions had been formed all over the web. A petition on the Change.org website received 37,000 signatures and The Color of Change organization received a reported 40,000 signatures to get the show cancelled. The organization has congratulated Oxygen for ceasing development of the series. “We thank Oxygen Media for taking this important step.”
