The season premiere of American Idol featured more than an array of hilarious auditions, the show also showcased the heavy tension between new judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Since before the show premiered, the two mega stars have been butting heads.
The premiere of 112th season of American Idol added three new judges to the table with country singer Keith Urban, legend Mariah Carey, and rapper/singer Nicki Minaj with veteran Randy Jackson. The show makes it’s first stop in New York as hopefuls auditioned for the panel in Manhattan.
New judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were going back and forth with each other from the top of the show. Fellow judge Keith Urban was almost completely overshadowed by the “battle of the divas”. Sadly, viewers may remember the various comments and gestures made by Mariah and Nicki, before remembering the stand out performances and auditions. Nonetheless, 40 hopefuls moved on to the next round from the New York Auditions.
The feud between Minaj and Carey has created a lot of media attention surrounding the show. In it’s efforts to raise the ratings, could the mishap between the two stars simply be a ploy? The rise of music competition shows have increased in recent years. American Idol now has to compete with the likes of “The Voice” and ex-Idol judge, Simon Cowell’s “The X Factor”.
