It was only a month ago that actor Joaquin Phoenix was quoted as saying that the Academy Awards were “bulls**t” and that they were neither something he wanted “to be a part of” or “believe in,” now, perhaps because award season is quickly approaching, the outspoken actor has had a change of heart.
Phoenix told the Sydney Morning Herald: “I wouldn’t have the career that I have if it weren’t for the Oscars. I haven’t been in a lot of movies that have made a lot of money…and getting nominated for a movie has probably helped my career tremendously.”
Phoenix has been nominated twice for an Oscar in the past, for his role in ‘Gladiator’ and for his role as Johnny Cash in the biopic ‘Walk the Line’ and with another nomination likely for his latest lead role in ‘The Master’ it seems the actor has decided to play nice with the Academy saying: “It’s not like I f—king hate the Oscars. It doesn’t occupy my time to where I can build up hate.”
