Rumors have been circulating for weeks but now its official: Jeff Zucker has been officially named as the president of CNN. Zucker, who became executive producer of the “Today” show by the age of 26, is promising that his first order of business will be making sure that CNN is “relevant, vibrant and exciting.”
He also promised to keep CNN an independent news voice as opposed to stations like MSNBC and Fox News Channel which have obviously political leanings.
“Both Fox News Channel and MSNBC do a terrific job at what they do,” he told the Daily News. “CNN does something different – in a world where Fox and MSNBC exist, CNN becomes all that more important. You don’t have to have a political point of view to succeed, you have to be vibrant and exciting, the biggest sin in television is to be boring.”
