Actress Ashley Judd and race car driver Dario Franchitti have called it quits after more than 10 year s of marriage together. A representative of the couple confirmed the news of the divorce on Tuesday.
“We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We’ll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed,” said a spokesperson for the couple to People.
Judd often attended the races of Franchitti wearing floppy hats and sun dresses. She was found on the sidelines cheering him on. When asked about her favorite car, she responded that her taste mirrored that of Franchitti.
After the divorce was announced, Ashley Judd tweeted, “family forever”, in which Franchitti tweeted in response, “family forever”. His tweet was later deleted, but could be found on the log on his website.
The couple married in 2001 in Franchitti’s native home of Scotland. They have no children together.
In addition to acting and directing, Judd served as a Tennessee delegate at the Democratic National Convention last year. Her attendance at the DNC caused speculation that she may be considering a Senate run in her home state of Kentucky. Judd also advocates for humanitarian causes. She has visited nations such as Rwanda and Cambodia as part of her mission.
Dario Franchitti is a three time Indianapolis 500 champion.
