It’s been almost a year since whispers of who could play Christian Grey and Anna Steele in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie began. Names such as James Franco, Liam Hemsworth, Henry Cavill were at the top of this list to play the iconic role. Over the weekend, the cast was revealed, but it wasn’t who anyone expected.
“Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam will play Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, will play Anastasia Steele. The author of the novel, E.L James, made the announcement through tweets on Monday. “Good Moaning, Hold on to your hats …” teased the novelist before officially announcing the news. “I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Johnson has had many small roles in some major movies such as “The Social Network”, “21 Jump Street” and “The Five Year Engagement”. Charlie Hunnam is best known for his roles in “Pacific Rim” and “Cold Mountain” along with his TV spot of “Sons of Anarchy”.
The best selling book trilogy will follow the unlikely relationship between billionaire tycoon Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele who undergoes a sexual awakening. The book highlighted their racy sex life and quickly became a global phenomenon that sold over 70 million copies worldwide.
Sam Taylor takes on as director of the major film, with Kelly Macfel as screenwriter. Michael De Luca and Dan Brunetti act as producers of the movie, which is scheduled for a summer 2014 release.
