Shakira and Gerard Pique Welcome Home Baby Boy

Shakira and boyfriend Gerard welcome home their first child together, named Milan Pique Mebarak. The baby boy weighed in at 6 lbs, 6 oz. and was born on January 22 at 9:36 pm in Spain, Barcelona.  The news was announced on Tuesday on Shakira’ website by a representative.

“The name Milan (MEE-lahn) , means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic. in Ancient Roman, eager of laborious ; and in Sanskrit, unification,” the couple wrote in a statement on their blog.

The new born is already following in his soccer-playing father’s footsteps. Milan was sworn in as a member of the FC Barcelona team. “Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth,”

The couple met back in September of 2010 on the set of Shakira’s video for the South Africa World Cup theme song “Waka Waka”. The song was a charity effort to encourage fans to send money to poverty striken-children.

During her pregnancy, Shakira and Pique started a virtual “baby shower” that urged visitors to donate money that will go towards providing food, vaccines, and and other necessities to babies in need around the world.

Shakira won’t have much a maternity leave, as the singer will be joining Usher, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton as a judge on the third season of “The Voice” in March. Shakira replaces Christina Aguilera this season, while Usher replaces Cee-Lo Green.
