Since the massive success of “The Avengers”, director Joss Wheldon has been at the top of the list to direct every other major Hollywood project. While Disney and LucasFilms scramble to find a director for the announced “Star Wars Episode VII” project, they have to pass over on the “Avengers” director who is hard at work on another project.
Although deeply considered, Wheldon would have to turn down the opportunity of working on the first of the planned”Star Wars” trilogy. The director is already preparing the script for the second installment of “The Avengers”, which is a few months from being completed. “I’m as angry as you should be,” joked Wheldon to CNN about the missed opportunity. “When I heard [about ‘Star Wars’] I was like, ‘I wonder…no, I really can’t do that. Oh, I already have a job.’ I wouldn’t clear the ‘Avengers’. I’m having so much fun with that sequel right now, just with the script, that I couldn’t imagine not doing it.” This is good news for Marvel fans, who can keep their excitement on follow up to “The Avengers”
“Avengers 2” is due out in theaters on May 1, 2015. While ‘Star Wars’ doesn’t have an official release date, the film is expected to be released in May, June, or July of 2015 as well. No director has been set for the “Episode VII”, but rumors have speculated that “X Men” director Matthew Vaughn is in serious consideration. Michael Arndt, screenwriter for “Little Miss Sunshine”, has been hired to write the script for “Star Wars” sequel.
