Jay-Z To Score The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

Jay-Z will add his musical genius to the film The Great Gatsby. The hip hop mogul will be co-writing the original musical score to the film adaption of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic novel directed by Baz Luhrmann. The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Toby Maguire.

The announcement came via Twitter by the rapper’s collaborator, up and coming  producer-songwriter The Bullitts. “Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby!” he wrote. “It is too DOPE for words!” Jeymes Samuel, the face behind The Bullitts, is the younger brother of singer Seal. Samuel has left his mark on the music industry with singles Supercool, Landspeeder, and Close Your Eyes. The latter song recently went gold.

This is not the first time Jay has collaborated with Australian-born filmmaker Baz Luhrmann. Jay Z’s Watch the Throne single with Kanye West “No Church in the Wild” is featured on the films trailer. Jay-Z may add Oscar nominee to his long list of titles come this time next year.

The Great Gatsby revolves around a Midwestern transplant to Long Island who becomes fascinated by mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor  Jay Gatsby. The film is due out in theaters on May 10th nation wide.
