It has been a short 5 months since Psy unleashed “Gangnam Style” on the world. Just one short month ago it became the most viewed video in the history of Youtube and on Friday the 21st, it was officially announced to be the first video to ever break the one billion mark in total views. When MTV broke the news about Psy being the first person to break the one billion views mark, it was understandable that Psy had a hard time coming up with something to say about the incredible accomplishment. What makes Psy’s success all that much more interesting s that he never expected any of it.

“I can’t compare it to anything else!” he laughed. “In 2012, I experienced so many things; it’s been a tremendous year, but to accomplish this, it’s really something that stands out. Because it all began with YouTube, and to have [the video] reach 1 billion views … I don’t think even I can break that record!”

Just days after a 2004 performance featuring anti-American lyrics surfaced, Gangnam Style rapper Psy took to the stage at the White House to perform as part of the annual “Christmas in Washington” charity concert.
Psy was forced to issue an apology on Friday after reports of a 2004 performance in which he sang lyrics about Americans dying “slowly and painfully” began circulating. The rapper has since gone on to say that the lyrics were “inflammatory and inappropriate.”

“The song I was featured in – from eight years ago – was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two innocent Korean civilians that was part of the overall antiwar sentiment shared by others around the world at the time,” he explained. “While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one’s self I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted.”

Justin Bieber has been dethroned as the reigning king of YouTube as rapper Psy and his Gangnam Style become the most watched video in YouTube history, with 806 million views to date.

Justin Bieber began his career when he was discovered on YouTube back in 2008 and had held the record of most views with 804 million until this October when Psy earned his place in the Guinness World Records for “most liked YouTube video ever.”

Hailing from South Korea, Psy, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, took the world by storm with his 4 minute hit video and his serious dance moves. His song ‘Gangnam Style’ is named for a neighborhood in Seoul. Psy told CNN that “I described the district as normal and calm in the daytime and going insane in the nighttime. That’s what the lyrics are about.”

Psy recently appeared at the American Music Awards to perform a surprise duet with 90’s rapper and fellow dancer MC Hammer.

It was a big night for 18 year-old Justin Bieber, who took home 3 awards last night at the American Music Awards. Bieber was up against some of the biggest names in pop music including Katy Perry and Rihanna but still manages to snag the coveted Artist of the Year honor. He also took home favorite pop/rock make artist and favorite pop/rock album for his latest LP ‘Believe.’

Justin Bieber took a moment to thank his mother Pattie Mallette, during his first acceptance speech, dedicating the award to her and saying; “This is for all the haters who thought that maybe I was just here for one or two years, but I feel like I am going to be here for a very long time.”

Winners were chosen through online fan votes and were passed out last night during a live broadcast from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, which also featured performances by some of the biggest names in the pop music industry including Gangnam style rapper, Psy and Stevie Wonder.

90’s rapper MC Hammer joined Korean pop superstar Psy on stage at the American Music Awards held last night at the Nokia Theatre, to perform a very special version of Gangnam style.

Psy had the honors of closing down the AMA’s last night and took to the stage in a pair of black ‘Hammer’ pants. Half way through his hit song Gangnam style, the singer shouted ‘Stop, Hammertime’ and was joined on stage by the iconic Hammer himself, 50 year old Stanley Kirk Burrell. The two took on an energetic performance of the Gangnam style dance, much to the delight of a star studded audience. Heidi Klum and Kerrie Washington could be seen singing along from the crowd and performer Will.i.am, who introduced the number appeared extremely enthusiastic about the performance.

Psy, whose crazy pop video has had almost 800 million views, made it into the Guinness Book of World Records this morning for the most liked video in Youtube history.

With only a month left to go until this year’s EMA’s MTV is announcing some major additions to the 2012 lineup. Among those headed to Frankfurt, Germany on November 11^th will be Psy, the Killers, Alicia Keys, Pitbull and South Korea’s latest star Psy who has been rocking the globe the last few weeks with his hit song ‘Gangnam Style.’ “Since this is my first time to not only be nominated for an international award but to perform in front of a worldwide audience, I am excited to give up my international virginity to the MTV EMA!’ Psy told MTV. Just a month after ‘Gangnam Style’ debuted Psy has appeared on the Video Music Awards, the Today Show and Saturday Night Live, not to mention he still has  the #1 best-selling song on iTunes.

Many of the nights artists have new works that they will be promoting. Alicia Keys will be performing a track from her new ‘Girl on Fire,’ the Killers are promoting their new album ‘Battle Born’ and Pitbull plans to debut work from him upcoming ‘Global Warming’ album.

These are only the latest additions to what was already promising to be an all-star show. German born model Heidi Klum will be hosting the nights activities which will also feature performances by Muse, Taylor Swift, No Doubt, Rita Ora, Fun, and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Aside from the nights performances there is also fierce competition brewing for the night’s big awards. Taylor Swift and Rihanna, who is rumored to be heating things up with ex Chris Brown, are both nominated for the most awards of the evening with 5 and 6 nominations. The song birds are trailed by tween pop star Justin Bieber who racked up 4 nominations this year. Also nominated this year are Lana del Rey, Jay Z, Kanye West, and One Direction.
