Lindsay Lohan just can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble. The actress was arrested last night around 4am at a New York City nightclub after getting into a physical alteration. Apparently Lohan was partying at Club Avenue when she got into an argument with a female club-goer and the police were called in when things turned physical. According to the police, the woman was sitting in a booth close to the young starlet who told her to give her some space, a short time later Lindsay allegedly punched her in the face.

When cops arrived on the scene Lohan was already leaving the club in a car, the vehicle was intercepted and Lindsay was arrested. She was charged with 3^rd degree misdemeanor assault and released a few hours later with a desk appearance ticket. Lindsay, who is still on probation, could be in serious trouble if she is found guilty of starting the fight as she is currently facing charges in California for lying to the police in regards to a car accident last June.

Awards season continues with last night’s Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City and Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ was clearly the biggest success of the evening. ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ starring; Bill Murray, Francis McDormand, Bruce Willis and Edward Norton took home the top honor of Best Feature beating out ‘The Master,’ ‘Bernie,’ ‘The Loneliest Planet’ and ‘Middle of Nowhere’ at the 22^nd annual ceremony.

Best Ensemble went to actors Emily Blunt, Rosemarie Dewitt and Mark Duplass  for their roles in “Your Sister’s Sister,” beating out the casts of ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ ‘Safety Not Guaranteed,’ ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ and ‘Bernie.’

Also honored last night were Jared Leto for his documentary ‘Artifact,’ Ben Zeitlin for his direction in ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild,’ and David France for his documentary ‘How to Survive a Plague.” The night was emceed by writer, director and actor Mike Birbiglia who introduced stars like Matt Damon, David O. Russell and Marion Cotillard throughout the night’s festivities.

New York City is doing it’s very best to get back to business as usual but despite everyone’s best efforts Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced today that that NYC marathon would be canceled this year because of the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. The mayor issued a statement today saying; “While holding the race would not require diverting resources from the recovery effort, it is clear that it has become the source of controversy and division. The marathon has always brought our city together and inspired us with stories of courage and determination. We would not want a cloud to hang over the race or its participants, and so we have decided to cancel it.”

The cancellation came as a surprise to many as just earlier today Bloomberg held a televised conference to insist that the marathon would take place, saying to viewers that “New York has to show we are here and we are going to recover,” insisting that the race would give “people something to cheer aboutin what has been a dismal week for a lot of people.”

The race was supposed to start Sunday on Staten Island and traverse all 5 boroughs but public pressure has made Mayor Bloomberg rethink his stance. “We cannot allow a controversy over an athletic event, even one as meaningful as this, to distract attention away from all the critically important work that is being done to recover from the storm and get our city back on track.”

As many New Yorkers still struggle today with limited power and transportation, not to mention limited access to food and gas it seems like a wise decision on Mayor Bloomberg’s part to not tempt fate by stretching New York City resources any thinner than they already are. Just one week after Blake Lively secretly married beau Ryan Reynolds in South Carolina, the honeymoon was over and it was back to work on the set of ‘Gossip Girl’ in New York City. The 25 year old appeared happy and relaxed as photographers caught her talking on the phone from the show’s Brooklyn set on Monday. Just last week Lively and Reynolds surprised family and friends when they through a secret wedding at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. 70 guests came to the event thinking that it was going to be a belated birthday party for Blake but instead were treated to the couples private and cozy exchanging of vows. Guests included many of Lively’s past and present co-stars and those in attendance were treated to a reception performance by Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine and dined on a $3,000 wedding cake brought in from Maryland for the big day.

Let’s face it; New York City has it all; the food, parks, lounges, clubs, entertainment and the nightlife. In fact, there are over 1500 New York lounges. With so many, how do you know which one you should visit? Well it’s simply really. All you have to do is analyze 3 simple things.

1 – What exactly do you want?

The first thing you have to decide is what exactly you want. Lounges are usually a mix of dance clubs, bars and restaurants. If you just want to grab a couple of drinks with the boys, you need to visit a simple lounge. Now you have to decide your style.

Lounges can be retro, classy, modern, sophisticated or stylish. You will have to select a lounge based on your mood and company. If you want some good old cocktails or beers, any lounge will do, perhaps the Ginger Man on 36th street. However, if you want to drink the latest cocktails, you may have to visit a trendier (and more expensive) lounge. We suggest the 230 Fifth lounge on Fifth Avenue.

2 – What’s your Budget?

Your budget is the single most important thing when visiting New York lounges. If you are a modest spender looking for some decent New York nightlife, there are plenty of places that can cater to your needs. Last Exit Bar & Lounge on Atlantic Avenue is a good pick.

However, if you want the best of the best, there are a couple of dozen hot lounges and nightclubs that will make you rethink what lounges are. Try Top of the Standard on Washington Street or Provocateur on 9th avenue.

3 – Proximity

Another important factor is proximity. You don’t have to waste time and money travelling to the other side of New York just to visit a lounge. Why not use the internet and find some great nearby bars? That way, you can travel get back and forth quicker. This gives you more time to enjoy the fine New York lounges.

Then again, considering the affordable transit system (24-hour subway), you could travel to a top lounge with relative ease. However, it will take some time to get there. If you don’t have an issue with time, check out some great bars and lounges in any of the five boroughs.
