Miley Cyrus’s latest single from RCA Records just debuted yesterday, June, 3rd to the world via radio with host, Ryan Seacrest. The song called, “We Can’t Stop,” is about partying and shaking it like a stripper. The young 20 year-old, former Disney star said this about the new song and the new album, “My record is like a movie. It’s a story of what I’ve been going through the past two years.” This new single is produced by Mike WiLL Made-It and co-written by Miley Cyrus herself, Mike WiLL, and Rock City and marks her 4th studio album following the 2010, “Can’t Be Tamed” album.

Ever since the Cambio blue carpet event at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, Cyrus fans have awaited and anticipated the drop of this song, because  that was where she announced that “We Can’t Stop” was coming.

“I’m really happy with my record because I feel like I have so many options for singles,” she also said about this new record that will be released later this year. It’s been awhile since Miley Cyrus has put out a new single, but she hasn’t been out of the spotlight with all of the gossip about her here today, gone tomorrow relationship with Mr. Hunger Games actor, Liam Hemsworth. Although she recently tweeted a pic on May 30th with her engagement ring on, maybe this new busy work schedule is a sign that they are off again….?

“Everyone always judges and says what they want, but my fans … have really stood by me no matter what I’ve been through,” said Cyrus about her music. Miley’s summer anthem sings a few noticeable lyrics that is the talk of the media right now…, “La-da-di-da-di, we like to party, dancing with Molly, doing whatever we can’t” and “Shaking it like we at a strip club” and “It’s my mouth, I can say what I want to and “trying to get a line in the bathroom!

She went on telling Seacrest, “I feel like I can really be myself. I really have more of a connection of who I am, and I feel like I can maybe express that more in my music now.”

Aside from collaborating with Mike WiLL Made-It, (the 24 year-old, Atlanta-born producer who has been all over the charts, producing songs for 2 Chainz, Rihanna, and Michelle Williams just to name a few!), she also collab’d with Pharrell Williams, Will.i.am, Future, and Dr. Luke for this record.

What embodies pure strength more than the visual of “building an army”? The vocals seem reminiscent of early Kelly Rowland days, but Dawn still brings her own style and image to the scene. The band formed in the 1990s and started the Anjunabeats record label in 1999. They released their first single “Volume One” under the alias the “Anjunabeats. The success of Volume One quickly caught the attention and support of other DJ superstars like Pete Tong, Paul van Dyke and others.

McGuinness, Grant, and Siljamaki have all very experienced musicians who have logged extremely long hours in the recording studio. They followed up the success of “Volume One” with singles and releases using the names of “Free State” and “Dirt Devils.” The name “Above and Beyond was inspired by a slogan used by an American motivational trainer. They soon developed the reputation as the UK’s leading vocal –trance mixers. One of their most popular songs was a remix the Madonna’s hit “What It Feels Like for a Girl.”

They have continued working with other artists and remixing their versions of popular songs such as Britney Spear’s “Everytime” and the Dido song, “Sand in My Shoes.” Madonna asked Above and Beyond to remix her song, “Nobody Knows Me.” Trance music fans of the Armin van Buuren show, A State of Trance, vote their single “No One On Earth” tune of the year in 2004. Dates are for a continuation of their globe-trotting tour agenda. They have performed at major festivals all over the world including India, the original home of trance music, South America, Western and Eastern Europe, and the United States.

The 2013 Above and Beyond Australian tour is part of a worldwide tour. In addition to Australia, the tour takes the trio to Russia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Canada, and the United States. Ravi Shankar, the legendary musician who helped introduce Indian music to the west back in the 60’s, passed away yesterday at the age of 92.
Shankar and  his music were extremely influential to musicians like George Harrison and David Crosby and despite some cultural differences, western audiences occasionally had trouble differentiating between tuning and songs, Shankar in many ways illustrated the universal nature of the musical language.
According to a statement on Shankar’s website, the musician died in San Diego, California yesterday with his wife and daughter at his bedside. He had been suffering from an upper respiratory infection and heart problems that had required surgery last week.
Among Ravi Shankar’s many impressive accomplishments throughout his decades long career was the creation of the first rock benefit concert, his 1971, two-night event at Madison Square Garden,Concert for Bangladesh, an event that raised millions of dollars for UNICEF to help Indian refugees.

Nardwuar caught up with Wiz Khalifa during his stop in Vancouver, and right away he blew away the person he was interviewing. Nardwuar started off by giving Wiz Khalifa a Chech&Chong record with the rolling papers still intact, before taking him back to the lady who put him on to Snoop Dogg.

Nardwuar then gives Wiz Khalifa a Mel Man record and then a record from The Jaguars, who went to another school while he was in school as well. Wiz Khalifa was open and candid about his musical history and the different records that influenced him as he grew up.

When Narwuar brought out a Devin Tha Dude Doobie Ashtray record Wiz Khalifa got sentimental, and thanked him for always putting out good music. Frieda Pane was also discussed because she wrote the “I get High” record that Styles P sampled. Her Grandson is Flying Lotus and you can hear her influence on the record.

Mexican brother and sister duo Jesse & Joy take home four awards at the Latin Grammy’s in Las Vegas. Their hit record Corre! (Run!) won them record and song of the year. They celebrated the prize with the words, “Viva Mexico!” The duo also won best contemporary album for their third studio album Con Quien Se Queda El Perro (Who Is The Dog Staying With?). “Thanks to people like Juanes and Juan Luis Guerro who have inspired us. Love and peace,” said Jesse.

Juanes is one of the world’s best known Latin stars. The singer took home the coveted album of the year reward. “What a great joy. Thank God, and all the fans,” he said in his acceptance speech. Juanes also performed at the Las Vegas ceremony with legendary guitarist Carlos Santana. The star now has 19 Latin Grammy’s to his name, tying him with reggaeton group Calle 13 for the most awards.

Juanes paid tribute to Dominican singer songwriter Luis Guerra by pulling him up on stage. Guerra had already won an award for producing the album that won the prize for Juanes. “Here’s the maestro Juan Luis Guerra for making this possible,” said Juanes.

Guerra led this year’s nominations with six and recently swept the Latin Grammy’s in previous years. The star missed out on the big awards for En El Eielo No Hay Hospital (In Heaven There Is No Hospital) although his performance of the sog earned him a standing ovation.

Other winners of the evening include Mexican pop group 3BallMTY who won best new artists. Ceaetano Velosos was honored as the Latin Recording Academy’s person of the year. Cuban- American jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval won three Latin Grammys, with two each fro Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Don Omar and Uruguayan alt-rockers Cuarteto de Nos. Milly Quezada was also adouble winner and she  too thanked Guerra who helped produced her album Aqui estoy yo.

It’s a convention in rock music that you have a front man or woman, guitarists, a bassist and, at the back, the drummer. In many people’s minds it could almost be a hierarchy, with vocal duties the currency of power. The reality is quite different of course (usually), and there are circumstances where the drummer gets to show off their vocal skills too.

Here are eight drummers who made their mark as memorable vocalists, with some going on to become solo singers in their own right.

Roger Taylor (Queen) – As well a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Roger Taylor’s distinctive vocals can be heard on many of the band’s hits. What makes Taylor’s vocal style remarkable was his ability to add a rocky gravel sound and a remarkable falsetto. This provided the perfect companion to Freddie Mercury’s own theatrical vocals.

Mickey Dolenz (The Monkees) – While it’s no secret that The Monkees were put together to be a group for a television show, they still had to be able sing, even if the instruments would be performed by session musicians. Dolenz was chosen to ‘play’ the drums, but it became apparent that his vocal style became the signature identity of the band.

Phil Collins – When Peter Gabriel left Genesis in 1975, Phil Collins stepped up as replacement vocalist from behind the drum kit. Collins has gone on to be a successful solo artist, as well as actor. He is also one of the most successful male solo artists in the world, sharing the same distinction of being a notable performer in a band and on his own, along with Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney.

Debbie Peterson (The Bangles) – Rock music is often seen as very male dominated, and there are fewer all female bands than their male counterparts. Therefore there are even fewer female drummer/singers. Debbie Peterson’s vocals have a haunting quality that gives a different distinction to the band’s jangly 60s inspired pop, helping to give The Bangles an edge over other bands of their ilk.

Don Henley (The Eagles) – Throughout the 70s, Don Henley wrote a string of hits with Glenn Frey, making The Eagles one of the most successful bands of the era. The pitch perfect harmonies and husky tones made Don Henley the perfect singer for songs such as One Of The Nights, Desperado and their most famous hit, Hotel California.

Peter Criss (KISS) – With their black and white faces and outlandish costumes, the idea behind KISS was to have four frontmen, each with their own distinctive personality. Founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley hired Criss as much for his voice as his drumming. His gravelly sound works incredibly well for the band’s big rock numbers such as Black Diamond as well as one of KISS’ biggest hits, Beth.

Dave Grohl (The Foo Fighters) – While Dave Grohl is now seen as guitarist and frontman for The Foo Fighters, it was as the drummer for Nirvana when he first stepped into the spotlight, although not as much as vocalist Kurt Cobain. Since then, Dave Grohl’s talents have had chance to shine, not only as a singer, but writer and player of a wide range of instruments.

Ringo Starr (The Beatles) – Unlike many other bands, it’s impossible to not know the names of all of The Beatles. John, Paul, George and Ringo just rolls off the tongue, and that’s thanks to the concept of each band member being as well known as the other. Having Ringo sing on at least one track per album was a conscious effort to ensure the drummer’s personality would be part of the record buying public’s awareness. That was part of the battle, as it was Ringo’s self effacing humour and charm that made him one of music’s most memorable characters.
