On 12/12/12, Bruce Springsteen  was the opening act in the benefit concert to aid those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Springsteen  and the E Street Band started the show with “Land of Hope and Dreams” and “Wrecking Ball”, both welcomed with a high roars from the crowd. The band addressed the rebuilding process in introducing his song “My City in Ruins”.

The concert also featured performances by Alicia Keys, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones. Adam Sandler also made an appearance onstage decking a NY Jets t-shirt. Many of the artists shared personal ties with the Superstorm effected area.

The show, which sold out, was broadcasted worldwde on television, in theaters, online, and on the radio.  Producers say more than 2 billion people could experience the concert live. From ticket sales alone, the concert raised $30 million to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.  Proceeds from the show will be distributed through the Robin Hood Foundation.

The storm, which hit in October, left millions without power or heat for weeks and killed over 140 people along the East Coast and Caribbean.

The stars have been coming out in droves to help with relief efforts for those in New York and New Jersey devastated by Hurricane Sandy and now Pink is doing her part, lending her voice to the upcoming MTV live benefit “Restore The Shore,” proceeds from which will be donated to Architecture for Humanity and will be used to help rebuild Seaside Heights, home of ‘The Jersey Shore’ gang and an area hit particularly hard by the storm. Pink recorded a message for the benefit saying: “Whenever you think of the Jersey Shore, you either think of that TV show, or you think about the beautiful boardwalks, the gorgeous beached, or the fact that my mom grew up in Atlantic City…..Please do whatever you can to restore this beautiful memory that, for most people in Seaside Heights right now, is just a memory.”

‘Restore The Shore’ is scheduled to air on MTV live at 11 pm tonight and will feature a host of celebrities including the cast of “Jersey Shore.”

Newlyweds Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel headed out to Rockaway, Queens over the weekend to help handout relief supplies to victims of Hurricane Sandy. The couple made their first public appearance since their October 19^th nuptials with Timberlake‘s longtime friend and collaborator Timbaland in tow. According to People magazine the trio spent several hours handing out supplies and blankets to local residents, who in turn took to Twitter to announce the surprise visit. Resident Jessica Nortesano Tweeted a pic of the young couple along with the Tweet, “Justin Timberlake & Jessica Bioel helping out.”

Kristi Ray, who was in Rockaway volunteering, tweeted, “Shout out to @jtimberlake & @jessicabiel for serving along side us in Rockaway & giving the kids something to talk about besides #Sandy.”

Timberlake and Biel weren’t the only celebrities on hand over the weekend. Singer John Legend also showed up to pitch a hand and encouraged his Twitter followers to do the same. “Went out to far rockaway this morning to view the aftermath of #sandy and distribute food,” he Tweeted. “Still no power out there. Keep giving. They need U.”

The lights are still out in much of lower Manhattan but the city that never sleeps is ready to get back to work. As commuters waited on impossibly long bus lines and sat in hours of traffic this morning, officials at NBC were busy planning the upcoming Hurricane Sandy relief telethon. Tomorrow NBCUniversal cable channels and networks will be airing a one hour telethon “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” hosted by Matt Lauer of the “Today” show. Already scheduled to perform are pop star and “The Voice” judge Christina Aguilera, New Jersey natives Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen and a man whose music is practically synonymous with the Big Apple, Mr. Billy Joel. Sting, Jimmy Fallon and Brian Williams are also scheduled to appear.

Tune into Bravo, MSNC, Syfy, USA, Style, E!, CNBC, NBC, or G4 at 8 PM tomorrow night, the telethon will also be streamed live on NBC.com. All money raised during the telethon will be donated to the American Red Cross.

The entertainment community is also showing their support for Sandy victims by getting back to business as usual in Manhattan.  For two days after the hurricane both Jimmy Kimmel and David Letterman recorded their late night shows in front of an empty theater while ‘The Colbert Report’ and ‘The Daily Show’ cancelled their recordings all together. Last night that changed however when David Letterman made a guest appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show. Kimmel, a Brooklyn native, is on the east coast to do some out of town shows and is recording out of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. While most film production is still shut down around the city, including the sets of “30 Rock”, “Law & Order: SVU” and “Deception” many Broadway shows reopened yesterday even offering discounts for those that could make it to the theater.

If you had any doubts that karma is indeed real, then this story should be an eye opener for you. Two days ago Lindsay Lohan tweeted a message to all her followers that read “WHY is everyone in SUCH a panic about hurricane (i’m calling it Sally)..? Stop projecting negativity!”

Well the same hurricane that wasn’t an issue for Lindsay wreaked all sorts of havoc on her mom’s Long Island neighborhood. TMZ got some exclusive photos that showed boats on people’s front lawns in Dina Lohan’s neighborhood, which got there thanks to the very same hurricane Sandy that Lindsay dismissed only two days ago. Talk about karma.

Dina Lohan also told TMZ that a tree from her property was uprooted, ripping a rather large gash through her roof before landing in the pool. Thankfully, Dina Lohan was safely in the house with her kids Cody and Ali when Sandy decided to leave her personal touch in the neighborhood. Lindsay Lohan and her father Michael Jr. are currently stuck in NYC due to all the bridges and tunnels being closed, but are expected home soon.

Hopefully Sandy helped bring the family back closer after Lindsay claimed her mother kidnapped her back in early October.

Broadway, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center all remain dark on Tuesday as Hurricane Sandy, the superstorm, swept through New York. The NY entertainment industry is urging to continue to go on with the show; even if that meant empty stadiums and studios. David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon experienced just that. Both late night talk show hosts taped their shows Monday night, before Hurricane Sandy landed, with some quite laughter-less monologues. Letterman repeated the feat Tuesday, while Fallon brought in a nice crowd to the taping.

Both shows have been careful about audience member’s safety and keeping them out on stormy streets and subways that remain without power. Letterman explains, “just like every night, we pretend the audience isn’t here,” of the empty Ed Sullivan Theater to band leader Paul Schafer. The host ran his monologue from his desk, without bothering to pause for the usual laughs from the crowd. Fallon welcomed back a studio audience after a night of awkard silence on Monday night. Fallon jokes, “first off, thanks to our great audience for making it out to the show tonight …last night’s audience was the worst.”

Another talk show to experience the wrath of Hurricane Sandy was Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel bought his Los Angeles- based “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to Brooklyn to shoot a week’s worth of shows in the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Tuesday night. He canceled the taping of the ABC program’s Monday showing due to the storm. Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” both canceled taping for Tuesday night’s tapings.

The damage brought by the storm has continued to caused the cancellation of film premieres, film and TV production, and even a performance by Bruce Springsteen. The Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert scheduled for Tuesday night at the Rochester Blue Cross Arena in upstate New York was postponed until Wednesday due to flight cancellations for many ticket holders. The city also revoked film permits of such shows like “Law & Order: SVU” and “30 Rock”, with many not returning to taping on Tuesday. Films forced to halt production included Darren Aronofsky’s “Noah” and Akiva Godsman’s “Winter’s Tale”.

Morning shows were affected by the storm as well. ABC’s “Good Morning America” and NBC’s “Today Show”, just to name a few, aired live on Tuesday, but GMA had to cancel its planned Wednesday Halloween special. Many daytime shows will resume taping on Wednesday.
