Don’t believe everything you see on television. According to a former star of the reality television show Storage Wars, many of the items discovered hidden away in storage units are actually planted by the show’s producers to add drama.
The cast member, Dave Hester, files a $2.2 million lawsuit yesterday claiming that he was fired from the show after complaining to A&E executives that the shows producers were committing fraud by stashing the fake finds.
“The truth is that [producers] regularly salt or plant the storage lockers that are the subject of the auctions portrayed on the series with valuable or unusual items to create drama and suspense for the show,” the suit claims.
Hester goes on to say that he was fired by producers just days after meeting with executives from the network to address his concerns about the show. The show continues to maintain that the drama in completely real and not staged.
