In her first interview post arrest, Reese Witherspoon revealed some interesting information about the night of the incident to Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulous.
Reese Witherspoon was originally there to discuss the success of her indie flick “Mud”, the conversation shifted to the April 19th arrest in Atlanta, Ga. Witherspoon’s husband, Jim Toth, was pulled over and arrested on the suspicion of DUI and she was arrested for disorderly conduct after a couple of outburst to the officer.
The actress called the arrest unacceptable, admitting that she and her husband had a little bit of champagne to drink. She stated that they are very “embarrassed” by their behavior.
“You’ve been under the spotlight your whole adult life and this doesn’t sound like the Reese Witherspoon most of us know,” said Stehpanopoulous. Witherspoon responded, “I know, I agree. I have no idea what I was saying that night. I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked. And I said all kinds of crazy things I told him I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant.” Witherspoon admits that the hardest part of the situation was explaining it to her older children, Ava, 1, and Deacon, 9. “When you make a mistake you have to take responsibility. And we’re taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right. You have to be honest with them. ”
Many of Witherspoon’s celebrity friends have been coming to her defense. Michael Buble told ET Canada that she handled it with “great dignity”. Her “Mud” co-star, Matthew McConaughey praised her for being honest and frank. Chelsea Handler stated that “everybody makes mistakes”.
