Oscar award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman entered himself into rehab after a week of using heroin. Once a user of the illegal drug decades ago, the actor relapsed after a prescription to pain pills led to him using heroin again.
According to TMZ, Hoffman just wrapped up a 10-day detox program for the recent drug problem. The actor struggled with the substance in the past, but had been clean for 23 years. He states that it started back slowly with a prescription to pain pills about a year ago, but grew when he began snorting heroin. Hoffman only spiraled for a week and quickly sought out help for recovery. The Oscar winner checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast and checked out ten days later on May 24. He’s quoted crediting “a great group of friends and family” for their support in helping him receive treatment. Hoffman is a notable actor and won the Oscar for his role in Capote in 2006.
Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to star in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, and Woody Harrelson. He has quickly returned to work and has been spotted back on set of his new film God’s Pocket in Europe.
