A famed New York City auction house is planning on holding an online only auction of some of Andy Warhol’s most famous pieces, hoping to reach a broader audience and help them get the chance to own a great piece of his art.
This upcoming auction will be Christie’s first online-only Warhol sale. Up for auction is 125 paintings, many different drawings, photographs and different prints will be offered from Feb.26th till March 5th. The estimates from the pre-sale are already starting high, ranging from $600 to $70,000.
The auction is being held in conjunction with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
The items that are up for sale can be previewed online before they actually hit the auction block. Interested buyers can log on and browse, bid and receive instant updates by email or phone if another bid exceeds theirs.
The first live auction raised $17 million for the Warhol Foundation’s endowment.
