Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance had everyone talking, but not in a good way. She shocked the world with the foam finger, nude colored underwear and twerking on Robin Thicke that generated thousands of memes and social media jokes. Miley says it doesn’t phase her and for the first time the singer speaks out about the performance.
Miley already tweeted and Instagrammed her response to the “hate” surrounding the singer’s VMA performance. This time, she sat down with MTV and explained that she wasn’t trying to impress anyone, but to make them remember. “I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” said the singer. “How many times have you seen this play out in pop music?”
She continued, “Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for, you’re wanting to make history.” And that she has. Her performance skyrocketed the singer’s YouTube views, allowing her to take the record with her performance being watched over 10 million times. Ironically, the singer released a new song at the same time which generated millions of views as well! You know what they say, bad publicity is good publicity.
“What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it,” she told MTV. “They’re overthinking it.” The singer is prepping for the launch of her new album entitled Bangerz, which releases next month that she hopes will generate the same numbers!
