The Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj feud is finally over, well on American Idol that is. Both musicians have officially resigned as Idol judges and won’t be returning for a second season.
Fox and other producers of the singing competition including FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment released a statement regarding the departure of Mariah Carey. They stated, “Mariah Carey is a true global icon -one of the most accomplished artists on the planet – and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the American Idol contestants this season. We know she will remain an inspiration to Idol hopefuls for many seasons to come.”
The producers also released a statement regarding Nicki Minaj’s departure. “Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season. Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”
Both artist cite their musical careers for the reason to leave Idol. Mariah Carey plans to have a world tour with the success of her most recent single “Beautiful” featuring Miguel.
Nicki Minaj went to Twitter to announce her departure. “Thank You American Idol for the life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!”
Fox has yet to officially announce new judges for the 13th season of the show. Randy Jackson has also exited the judging chair, but many speculate the next season will include an all alumni panel with former contestants such as Jennifer Hudson.
