It’s not the first time Kate Moss has shown off the tattoo of two sparrows at the base of her spine, but the supermodel has finally revealed where they came from. The little birds are the work of Lucian Freud, one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. The two became friends when Freud was painting the models portrait and he revealed that he used to do tattoos during a brief stint in the navy during WWII. Moss and Freud became very close during the 9 months that he painted her portrait. In a recent interview Moss told reporters that she had originally named him as the person she would most like to meet during an interview and two days later she received a phone call from his daughter saying that he would like to meet her. Later that night they began her nude portrait, which turned out to be a very large commitment. Moss continued to pose nightly for Freud for 9 months until the work was finally complete. The painting sold at auction for almost $6 million in 2005.
