Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting outside of French Montana’s tour bus on Thursday evening, which left one fan dead and another injured with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Reported by NBC 10, the shooting occurred outside of the Holiday Inn on Penn’s Landing Thursday night as French Montana, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, and his crew were hanging out with fans following his performance in the area. Authorities state that the unnamed 27-year old fan was shot in the stomach and pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. A second fan was hit in the shoulder and is in stable condition at Jefferson University Hospital.
It is unknown as to who shot fire at Montana’s tour bus, but police have interviewed 25 people, including the rapper, his crew, and fans who witnessed the incident. Three people were taken into custody for possession of guns and investigators state that someone from inside the tour bus returned fire after the initial shot. French Montana and his crew are cooperating with police and investigators.
There is currently no suspects, but the Associated Press reported that police think Montana and his crew were targets and neither victim had any ties with the rapper. Just a few weeks ago, a similar instance happened with rapper Rick Ross, who crashed into an apartment complex after his car was targeted at by a drive by shooter. Montana told MTV News that the incident reminded him to stay guarded. “I was with him that night. It was his birthday at Club Liv. I was like the last person that walked him to the car before he drove off,” French Montana told MTV News. “When it’s your birthday, you think everybody loves you. You’re not thinking nothing of it .. You just always gotta protect yourself.”
Looks like French Montana will need a little protection himself.
