Kevin Clash officially resigned from Sesame Street today after a new lawsuit was filed, the second in 2 weeks, which accuses him of engaging in a sexual relationship with an underage male.
The new lawsuit was filed by Cecil Singleton, and alleges that the two met back in 1993 when he was only 15 and Clash was 32. The Sesame Workshop issued a statement today saying: “Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street.” Reps for the show have already assured fans that Elmo will like on saying that he “is bigger than any one person.”
Earlier this week, Clash’s original accuser Sheldon Stephens accepted a $125,000 settlement to drop his charges but only a day later began express regret at the decision and now maintains that his original story was the truth.
