Actor Conrad Bain has passed away at the age of 89. Bain is perhaps best known for his role as father Philip Drummond on the hit series “Diff’rent Strokes,” which ran from 1978 to 1986.
While there isn’t many details on how Bain died, Jennifer Bain, his daughter, confirmed to TMZ that he did indeed pass away, saying: “He was an amazing person. He was a lot like Mr. Drummond, but much more interesting in real life. He was an amazing father.” She concluded by saying that Bain was surrounded by family during his last days.
Bain was 55 years old when he landed the role of Philip Drummond, appearing in 179 episodes of the iconic “Diff’rent Strokes” sitcom. Bain’s character was a Manhattan millionaire who adopted the children of his former household maid, who was an African American. The children were played by child stars Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges.
Bain also went on to act in dozens of other television shows since the 1950s, such as Dr. Arthur Harmon on “Maude” and as Charles Custers on “The Love Boat.” The actor’s last television performance was a guest stint on CBS’ “Unforgetable,” in 2011.
