TMZ reports that an award winning TV and film director was killed in a horrific shark attack off of the coast of New Zealand on Wednesday.
Adam Strange, who is best known for directing international commercials for big names such as Pepsi and Firestone, was swimming at a popular New Zealand beach called Muriwai Beach north of Auckland when a Great White pulled him under water. According to local reports, the attack drawn three other sharks.
“All of a sudden, we saw the shark fin and next minute, boom, attack him and then blood everywhere on the water,” said a witness of the event.
Local police jumped In a small boat, along with a helicopter, raced over to the scene. Cops fired around 20 shots at the sharks, but were unable to save Strange. One shark, however, was killed in the shooting and is measured at 14 feet long when it washed up onto the shore. Authorities were unable to recover the body of Strange after the attack. Friends of Strange say he was training for an upcoming Ocean Swim and that his family was close to the beach and was very familiar with the waters.
Adam Strange also directed short films and was awarded Best Short Film at the Berlin Film Festival in 2009.. He also has a background in painting, photography, and graphic design.
