Awards season continues with last night’s Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City and Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ was clearly the biggest success of the evening. ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ starring; Bill Murray, Francis McDormand, Bruce Willis and Edward Norton took home the top honor of Best Feature beating out ‘The Master,’ ‘Bernie,’ ‘The Loneliest Planet’ and ‘Middle of Nowhere’ at the 22nd annual ceremony.
Best Ensemble went to actors Emily Blunt, Rosemarie Dewitt and Mark Duplass for their roles in “Your Sister’s Sister,” beating out the casts of ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ ‘Safety Not Guaranteed,’ ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ and ‘Bernie.’
Also honored last night were Jared Leto for his documentary ‘Artifact,’ Ben Zeitlin for his direction in ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild,’ and David France for his documentary ‘How to Survive a Plague.” The night was emceed by writer, director and actor Mike Birbiglia who introduced stars like Matt Damon, David O. Russell and Marion Cotillard throughout the night’s festivities.
