Twilight madness continues as premieres of the new ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ sold out across the country today in anticipation of tonight’s midnight opening. With such a rabid fan base, including those willing to camp outside of the Nokia Theatre for 6 days before the Hollywood premiere, it is no wonder that thousands of theaters are already sold out.
According to Fandango, the final installment of the Twilight franchise has accounted for 92% of today’s ticket sales and has been in the top three since they went on pre-sale back on October 1st. Fandango president, Paul Yanover, issued a statement today saying: “It’s the most anticipated moviegoing event of the season, and our surveys indicate that the action in ‘Part 2’ may be driving new moviegoers to see the grand finale.”
The survey found that 52% of those intent on seeing the film are most interested in the action, while only 48% are most excited about the continuing romance between Bella and Edward. The film is expected to gross as much as $150 million this weekend in the U.S. alone.
