Heart throb Justin Timberlake took a break from singing on records to appear in a slew of movies and make a name for himself as a serious actor, but now he’s ready to flex his golden pipes once again.

Timberlake’s new single, “Suit & Tie,” now holds the record for the highest first week plays total in the history of the Billboard pop songs chart. “Suit & Tie” is the first single Timberlake has released since his 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds, and has been played 6,045 times in the first week alone, from Jan.14th to Jan.20th. Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie” record beat out the old record-holder Lady Gaga and her “Born This Way” single, which was played 4,602 times during the first week in Feb. 2011.

“Suit & Tie” features rapper Jay-Z on the record and it was produced by Timberlake’s long time collaborator Timbaland. The catchy tune has already reached No.14 on the Billboard’s Pop Songs Chart, which gives Timberlake the record for the highest-debuting song by a male artist. The title was previously held Jon Secada whose single “If You Go” opened at No. 19 in 1994.

Timberlake is currently hard at work putting the finishing touches on his upcoming The 20/20 Experience, which will be released a little later this year. “The inspiration for this really came out of the blue and to be honest, I didn’t expect anything out of it,” Timberlake said in a letter to fans. “I just went into the studio and started playing around with some sounds and songs. It was probably the best time I’ve had in my career.”
