New Action Movie With Keanu Reeves – 47 RONIN

If you haven’t already seen the trailer for 47 Ronin, then you have to, this action packed movie features Matrix star Keanu Reeves and is jam packed with amazing graphics and scenes. Just from watching the trailer I knew I had to see this movie, and I know if you are an action fan then there is no way you won’t want to see this.

Even in the trailer you can see the cast adventuring across far and distant lands and crazy characters that only Hollywood could come up with. We enjoy almost any movie with Keanu in it as he usually only acts in movies that are amazing and this looks like nothing short of that. They have some ancient sword style action that seems to be of Chinese origin and even bows and arrows, horses, and so much more.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and what your favorite part of the trailer is! We can’t wait to get into theaters to see this and bet you are getting excited too. Some newer movie theaters even have reclining and extra comfortable lazy-boy style luxury home theater seats, so if you can swing it, go to one of these cinemas.

After last year’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire ignited a debate over multiracial revivals of traditionally White productions, a new Broadway show prepares to open, starring Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Williams and Condola Rashad.

Stars of the Broadway revival of Horton Foote’s classic The Trip to Bountiful expressed no worries about any possible controversy for featuring an all African-American cast. Indeed, preview performances earned rave reviews for the show, including three Drama League Award noms.

For Vanessa Williams, who plays the wife of Cuba Gooding Jr.’s character, the play’s universal themes of aging, family and self-discovery break color barriers.

“This is a human story about a family. The fact that this family is Black during Jim Crow in Houston is one aspect,” she said. “It talks about aging, longing to go home and socioeconomic levels. Those are things we deal with now, and if it brings more [people] to Broadway it is fantastic.”

It’s taken some time for Cuba to head from Los Angeles to Broadway, due to a promise he made with his wife to wait until their children became older. It is the play’s theme of family and sacrifices that resonated deeply with him as he portrays an overprotective son to Cicely’s Carrie Watts character, who only wants to take a journey back to her hometown, Bountiful.

“It is transformative to be at that point in my life to question certain things and be asked to do certain things for our family,” Cuba said. “It’s about staying relevant and connected to the family in a way that shows support.”

As the character Thelma, Condola plays a young woman masking the pain of her husband being sent off to war. Similarly, Condola revealed a habit of not always allowing herself to feel negative emotions. “Thelma tries to not get into what that [pain] means. That’s similar to me, as a lot of times if something’s going on big I try to just get through it. My challenge is to accept what’s happening and say it’s okay to just have a moment.”

It is these lessons concerning family and self-discovery that Cicely hopes will inspire theatergoers of all colors to realize it’s never too late to learn in life—just as she is doing with her new role. “I learn something new every minute of the day to live life to its fullest,” said the Hollywood legend. “Every single second in life brings something new, and you become the sum total of your whole life’s experience.”

The Trip to Bountiful runs through the end of June at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Reminiscent of the first trailer of “The Social Network”, Sony reenlists Scala & Kolacny Brothers for the final “Zero Dark Thirty” trailer.

The final trailer for the Kathryn Bigelow’s critical favorite features the Scala & Kolacny Brothers’ cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” behind the riveting images from the film. The song, appropriately used, expresses CIA analyst Maya’s, played by Jessica Chatiain, tenacity to do anything to find Osama Bin Laden. “Zero Dark Thirty” tells the story of the capturing of bin Laden in the viewpoint of Maya, done so in an intriguing fashion. Sony’s choice of music does a great job at connecting “The Social Network” with “Zero Dark Thirty”.

The film chronicles the 10 year man hunt for Osama bin Laden after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 to his capture by the Navy S.E.A.L.s in May of 2011. “Zero Dark Thirty” will be released in limited showing on December 19. The film will open nationwide on January 11, 2013.

After the Avengers movie my inner nerd was in heaven. Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Nick Fury, and Hawk all together on the same screen kicking ass and taking names. So when they announced that Iron Man 3 was in the works I was in geek heaven and couldn’t wait to see what type of tricks Marvel has up their sleeves for us this time. Now we get to finally see what they were working on. Marvel released the official trailer to Iron Man 3 today and it looks AWESOME! The new two-minute trailer shows billionaire playboy Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., struggling to maintain a sense of normalcy in his life, knowing that with every passing moment he and the ones close to him are being targeted by people who want to kill them. The Iron Man 3 trailer introduces some new weapons from Stark Industries, as well as the epic return of War Machine and the appearance of Iron Man’s new villian, the Mandarin. Check out the trailer below now!

Bathrooms have featured a lot in movies over the years. It seems that we Brit’s can’t get enough of toilet humour – be it silly noises, or malfunctioning toilets that wont flush, or flushing what you shouldn’t down the pan.

Baths also have seen some action over the years, especially in horror movies – it’s the vulnerability of being naked, having a lie down, being wet – all it takes is one live electrical appliance and… POW!

Any over-18’s, American high school end-of-year Prom type of movie simply has to flash some flesh in the girls changing rooms or it wouldn’t pass the grade. The Director has to make it saucy enough to make a generation of 12 to 16 year olds want to steal it off their older brother.

What irritates me about shower scenes is that they all seem to be made of steam – and I’m not complaining about not being able to see anything! It’s just I’ve never had a shower that pumps out that much steam – if it was that hot, the actors would be scalded in no time!

But this piece is about famous shower scenes. Let’s face it, we all do it every day (or at least every other day – hopefully!) In fact, the average British person seconds 82 minutes in the shower every week!

So, here are my top four shower scenes from movies, I hope you agree.

But beware; you might not feel safe under your Triton t802 power shower ever again!

Carrie (1976)

Sissy Spacek starred as the mousy student and the dramatic opening scene is in a shower, where the teenager gets her first period. However, she has no idea what it is and fears for her life, begging classmates to help her – of course, she gains ridicule for this, but also makes a friend out of it.

This friend is the beginning of her troubles though, as Carrie is a “gifted” young girl with special telekinetic powers, and she certainly shows them what she’s made of when she’s humiliated for the final time at the end of year Prom, with horrific results.

Porkys (1982)

This was ground breaking stuff in its day and paved the way for a whole swathe of copycat, practical joke filled movies that were to follow. This high school comedy is about horny high school boys battling through their adolescence, badly. These guys will do anything to get laid.

The boys spend their lives talking about and trying to get to see naked women. So the groundwork was laid for them to embark on the famous scene, where they drill a hole into the wall of the girl’s locker room and get to see many naked ladies all at once in the shower.

A must-see, rite of passage movie for any teenage boy… or grown man for that matter!

Weird Science (1985)

This great 80’s movie included a perfectly cheesy soundtrack, big hair and a couple of nerds. Tackling the themes of class rivalry and geeks that don’t fit in, it follows the story of two outsiders, Gary and Wyatt, who are desperate to be liked.

They figure that if they could create the “perfect woman” on their computer, then they would finally get to be popular. Through a weird freak of nature, the woman, Lisa, does actually materialise, emerging from the bathroom, and invites the boys into their fantasy; a shower with her. Don’t worry; the boys are so petrified they go in with their pants and shoes on.

However, Lisa does put them in other situations in which they must act like men, thus giving them the personal confidence to get over their shyness and inadequacies. Go, Lisa!

Image by Brizzle Born and Bred

Psycho (1960)

This has to be THE most iconic movie scene ever shot. In the film by Alfred Hitchcock, the anticipation and fear levels are pumped up to full volume by his classic film making style, culminating in the scene in which Janet Leigh enters the shower.

Although we don’t actually see the knife, nor the colour of blood, it’s as though you can actually feel the weight of the knife – the imagination is utilised which makes the scene all the more powerful and effective.

Of course, this method has been used to great effect in more recent movies such as The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, which still scare the life out of me.

Can you think of any other great shower scenes? (And try and keep it clean!)

Given the choice, he would rather spend his days roaring around the world on his motorbike seeing the greatest architecture the globe has to offer. He lives for the sound of a great guitar riff, and a well written blog, and writes for Alert Electrical.

You may remember the legendary acting performances in the previous movies and now they are kicking it up another notch. The main character in prior movies was Jason Bourne, essentially Matt Damon, as a government trained spy that can do just about anything. This new movie essentially features another crazy trained spy other then Jason Bourne. Judging from the trailer I cannot tell if Matt will be in this movie as well; the main character is now somebody else.

The new character in The Bourne Legacy is Jeremy Renner who you may recognize from Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. If you like action with a slight hint of drama, secrecy, and cool spy scenes then you may like this movie! We are yet to see if but the trailer definitely makes you want to go see this. The previous Bourne movies were really good so we are thinking that this one will follow in their footsteps even without Matt’s prevalence.

Rack your brains and think back. Over the years a number of films have featured precious gemstones as the focus for their plots. Quite a few movies may spring to mind but here we’ll outline a few of our favourites!

The Pink Panther

Back in 1963 ‘The Pink Panther’ was released and soon became popular. As a result of the triumphs of this first movie a subsequent 10 more movies were made afterwards. Out of the 11 films, 6 featured the famous ‘Pink Panther’. Many people unfamiliar with the films may believe that the name refers to the famous bumbling police Inspector, Jacques Clouseau or the iconic cartoon image of a Pink Panther. In fact ‘Pink Panther’ actually refers to a very large pink diamond at the centre of the plot of the first film, and numerous sequels following. The diamond is not just named so because of its’ brilliant pink colour but also due to a panther-shaped flaw in the centre of the diamond.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Ok so this movie may not be a classic, yet, but the latest instalment in the Indiana Jones lineage does feature a pretty large gem as the focus of the plot! Crystal Skulls do actually exist, although none have been proved to unlock supernatural powers quite like the one in the film. It’s claimed that the ones in existence are pre-Columbian artefacts, but in reality they have been tested and found to be 19th Century European creations. The crystal that makes up the skull is a type of Quartz, certainly a semi-precious gemstone.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

The first of the Harry Potter books / films is the Philosopher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone in the US!). Whilst a great deal of the film is made up of introducing the viewer to the magical world of Harry Potter, the real plot is set around Voldemort (the baddy!) trying to find the Philosopher’s Stone which is hidden somewhere inside the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry and friends are tasked with entering the hidden rooms below the school and making their way through 7 chambers, each containing defensive measures to stop them reaching the Stone. They need to stop Voldemort from getting to the Philosopher’s Stone first as it contains the Elixir of Life and can bring Voldemort back to full strength! The Philosopher’s Stone is at the centre of a modern classic and deserves to be among the top 5.

Titanic

Titanic was released back in 1997 and is a fictional story surrounding the events of the ill-fated real-life sinking of the passenger ship Titanic in 1912. Central to the plot is a fictional large blue heart-shaped diamond called “The Heart of the Ocean” owned by the wealthy heir to a large steel company. The heir was Caledon Hockley, and his fiancée Rose is one of the two main characters in the film. At the beginning of the film a Marine Salvage company is searching for the safe containing the diamond in a first-class bedroom on the wreck. The most expensive first class suite on the Titanic would have cost roughly £2,600 in 1912 and in today’s money that’s £46,000!

Men in Black – SPOILER ALERT

Ok Ok, so this may not be a gemstone as such but as I like the film, and the concept, it’s being included. At the centre of the intergalactic plot of Men is Black is an object simply known as the Galaxy. Two warring species, the Bugs and Arquillians are fighting for control of the Galaxy, an object that could tip the balance of war in favour of the Bugs if they were successful in gaining control. Agents J and K are tasked with retrieving the Galaxy from a Bug agent before he gets a chance to leave Earth. Here’s the best part, the Galaxy is tiny! It’s contained within a small gaming marble attached to the collar of a cat named Orion. The material of the marble remains unknown however it looks a lot like a piece of black costume jewellery.

The “Think Like A Man” movie, Based on the Steve Harvey book “Act like a Lady, Think like a Man,” is about a group of men who find out that the women in their lives are using Steve Harvey’s book to gain the upper-hand in the relationship. The women use the book almost like a bible, often employing the same tactics that the book talks about. The cast of the movie is filled with some of the biggest and best names in Hollywood, including Michael Ealy, Meagan Good, Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson and Regina Hall. Only time will tell whether or not the movie will knock “The Hunger Games” off the number one spot. Check out what some of the critics are saying about the movie below:

” ‘Think Like a Man’ is a romantic ensemble comedy — an excessively populated and chatty two-hour one — spun from comedian and syndicated radio host Steve Harvey’s 2009 self-help relationship bestseller ‘Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man’…The fact that the movie adaptation uses just the latter half of Harvey’s book title is your first clue to its slant. It centers around a fraternity of six friends — each designated in the intro as a particular ‘type’ (as per Harvey’s book) — who regularly meet to play basketball, drink and talk about women. Four of them discover that the women they are involved with (who are also ‘types’) are applying Harvey’s wisdom to the relationship dynamic, so the men study up and turn the game to the home-team advantage for what amounts to a temporary fix.” — Jennie Punter, The Globe and Mail

“Forget hackneyed clichés about Players and Dreamers and the scheming women who seek to domesticate them. Focus on the pleasures of watching a group of gifted actors spar and seduce each other with genuine warmth, and ‘Think Like a Man’ just might go straight to your head.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post

“Every primary cast member is appealing, elevating the disposable plot — men and women are in constant battle, yawn — into a funny, sexy take on contemporary dating. Middling lines are delivered with sharp sass; tired stereotypes are … well, still tired, actually (women manipulate and nag, men lie and evade). But at least the actors offer gentle twists that take away some of the sting.” — Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News

” ‘Think Like a Man’ is occasionally funny, though its dirty riffs — most provided by Kevin Hart as the Happily Divorced Guy — are as formulaic as its earnest parts. The movie isn’t liable to surprise you. Nor will it bore or offend you, even if you find Mr. Harvey’s shtick more old-school sexist than old-school courtly.” — Rachel Saltz, The New York Times

“These 30-something folks, comfortable in their circumstances and their skins, are allowed to be smart of heart if baffled by the 21st-century courtship game. There’s nothing profound going on here; the truisms don’t blossom into life-enriching truths. It’s more like the person you meet at a bar who, on second glance, is surprisingly attractive. Call ‘Think Like a Man’ a perfectly satisfactory one-night stand at the movies.” — Richard Corliss, TIME

When you are working on producing an independent film, most likely the project will be driven purely by passion and not a large Hollywood budget. Having to bring your vision to fruition with limited funds can be a daunting task, but if you spend your money wisely, there are ways to ensure that you get the biggest bang for your buck. After all, you can’t buy success.

Production

You may decide that where you want to spend the majority of your budget is on production value. Hiring a cinematographer can help you to feel confident that your film will look beautiful and professionally done. You also must consider what equipment you will need to shoot your project. You will need at the very least, a camera.

What caliber of camera is up to you and what production value you are trying to achieve. Lighting will most likely be necessary as well, unless all of your shots take place at the same time of day. You must decide whether it is necessary or important to you to invest in purchasing these items, or if renting them is an acceptable route to take and which will pay off in the long run.

Star Power

Spending a large portion of your budget to secure a big Hollywood name is a good way to get the attention of distributors and peak their interest, making it more likely that they will support your project and help it reach the masses. Having a household name attached to your production helps to draw larger numbers to the box office.

The name could be a lead actor or director, whichever you see as most necessary for your particular project. A big name gets your project noticed and generates a buzz surrounding the film, which can lead to more press about your project. Word of mouth is the best advertising you can get and it is free.

Distribution

In the event that you have not been able to grab the attention of big distribution companies or that you have chosen to take care of this matter yourself, you can spend a nice chunk of your budget on distribution. Ensuring that your film gets seen is one of the most important aspects of production, and really what the whole thing is about, reaching the masses. All of your hard work is all for naught if no one ever gets to see it.

No matter how you look at it, producing a film is not cheap. When you are working with a tight budget you really need to take some time during pre-production to get a plan together and really assess what is of most importance to you and will help you to create your vision the best way possible. The ultimate goal is success and there is no clearly defined path to get there, so dividing and using your funds in a creative way is what movie making is all about. Successful films can be created with any budget; you just have to make them happen.

Anthony Silver is a big fan of independent films. The company he works for, SeeFlik, is currently running a video contest centered around the Presidential race with $3,000 is prize money to be awarded.
