The action comedy and comic book adaption is the fifth largest Friday through Sunday premiere for the seasoned Denzel and Wahlberg’s sixth biggest opening. The film had an estimated $61 million budget and was expected to do larger numbers this weekend. The fact is, the audiences of Denzel and Mark intertwined.

The Smurfs 2 rounded up the top three in an underwhelming weekend. The sequel to the August 2011 filmed earned $18.2 million. This earned a total of $35 million less that The Smurfs in 2011. The success of the first film can be explained by viewers being curious to see what it was about, but not really liking it enough to watch the sequel. The Smurfs 2 did well overseas and earned over $80 million worldwide. All in all, Smurfs 3 is still in the works and will air on July 24, 2015.

Pacific Rim landed in the 10th spot this week due to losing 799 screens for Paramount’s World War Z. The film earned $4.5 million over the weekend, which brings its total to $92 million. It earned around $53 million overseas this weekend bringing the total a grand total of $200 million.

Transformer 4 is already seeing some action. The movie set in Austin, Texas caught on fire while filming.

The attic in the house that the film is being shot in caught on fire around 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 11. Firefighters were able to put out the flames before the fire spread and caused any more damages to the rest of the house. However, there was a civilian who was transported to a nearby hospital for injuries, reports E! News.

Mark Wahlberg and director Michael Bay reportedly sprang into action, helping grab equipment and costumes as they ran out of the burning house. There is no official word as to how the fire started, but E! News reports that it was due to a wiring catching on fire and is being ruled as accidental. KVUE News, however, claims that a crew member told them that the fire occurred during a “controlled explosion”. The latter is not so hard to believe considering that the film is action packed film.

Transformers 4 has a lot left to shoot as it prepares for its release this time next year. The film will go sans-Shia Labeouf, as Mark Wahlberg takes on the lead role. Bay stated that the film is moving towards a more mature direction and will encounter a lot of changes, including makeovers for some of the Transformers.

HBO has officially green lighted the Entourage movie and executive producer Mark Wahlberg is excited to get things rolling.

“We always felt like it was a movie, but we had to just make these 30-minute episodes. That was one of the frustrating things,” said Mark Wahlberg. “It always felt like we left the audience wanting more, which is a good thing in doing television. I think its story and its characters were a world people really missed and really enjoyed.” Entourage, which is loosely based on Walhberg’s real life group of friends, is about an actor and the situations he gets in with his closest friends.

The show ended in 2011, having many wondering what’s next for the group of friends. “It took a long time to get it written, get it right, and we got a fantastic script. Warner Bros. is very excited about it. All the guys are excited.” There has been no set release date, but Wahlberg reassures a premiere will be sometime next year. “Well, hopefully [we’ll shoot in] spring. Spring or summer. But hopefully as soon as possible. And then release, I mean, either a summer movie or fall movie, depending. But I like April, May [next year].”

According to Doug Ellin, the creator of the show, the film will pick up six months after the finale and focus on Ari’s new movie career move. But Wahlberg on the other hand wants something different. “I think a 90-minute move of sheer craziness — the guys getting back to just being about the guys, you know? Lose the ladies. Go crazy. Give people what they want.”

Actress Jessica Chastain has showed up veteran actors Mark Wahlberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger by besting them at the box office. Twice.

Chastain starred in two movies that are currently holding down the number one and two spots in the box office standings over the holiday weekend. Wahlberg’s latest film Broken City opened to weak numbers and is worst premier for Mark numbers wise in the last ten years, and Schwarenegger’s The Last Stand barely appeared on the charts at all.

The horror film Mama, which had a budget of about $15 million, pulled in $28.5 million from Friday to Sunday, according to the latest estimates. The film is expected to hit $33 million through Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Mama marks the first No. 1 opener of Chastain’s career.

Wahlberg’s Broken City comes in at number five with a $8.3 million Friday-Sunday take, lower than expected, and marks the lowest wide-release debut for a Wahlberg film since the 2002 thriller The Truth About Charlie. Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand did even worse, taking in $6.2 million over the weekend. That’s the smallest opening for the form governor since his comedy Junior, which was released nearly 20 years ago in 1994.

Chastain’s other film, Zero Dark Thirty, had a strong second week and took the number two spot with $15.8 million made from Friday to Sunday. The film has made $57 million in the U.S. alone so far.

No one was very surprised to hear that Michael Bay would be making yet another installment of the Transformers movie franchise but what did come as a shock was that Hollywood mega star Mark Wahlberg had signed on to star in the film. It was no secret that Wahlberg and Bay hit it off on the set of “Pain and Gain,” and that they were both eager to work together again but it was hard to predict that Wahlberg would be interested in starring in the alien robot franchise reboot.
Wahlberg sat down with MTV news recently while promoting his upcoming film “Broken City” to discuss his decision. “Because Michael and I had such a great experience on ‘Pain and Gain’ and for me, working in the environment with him, I had the opportunity to be the best actor I could,” Wahlberg said. “I wanted to work with him again right away and started talking to him and he just kind of said, ‘Hey I’m doing this movie. It’s completely different. I want to change it. This is how I’m going to do it,’ and I said, ‘I would love to do it.’”
