The former Fugees member had a very high-profile career and then became a recluse of sorts, not blessing us with her musical talents for over a decade and then releasing  her 2010 track “Repercussions”.  Her most recent release  “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)” dropped this past Friday (May 3) from a new recording deal that she was “forced” to make in order to satisfy financial obligations related to the tax debt she acquired.

Unfortunately, the deal didn’t seem to impact an impending sentence that will have her sitting still for a few months.  She will also have 3 months of house arrest to contend with following prison, and then a 9 month supervised probation stint.  Hopefully, she will use the time productively and come out strong with material for her album that is due to be released later this year.  Good luck, Lauryn!  We are eager for all of this to be behind you, and even more eager to hear some dope tracks!

In addition to facing charges of tax evasion, Lauryn Hill is now also reportedly being evicted from her home in Orange, New Jersey.

She is now is facing eviction after defaulting on her rent last month. Although Hill had been a tenant of the Newark, New Jersey residence since 2009, her landlord filed an eviction lawsuit against the artist for missing March’s rental payment.

According to TMZ, the former Fugees singer is now being sued for eviction by her landlord.

The 37-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer stopped paying rent on the mansion last month and the landlord is demanding an immediate settling of her debts, according to the lawsuit.

First issue here: Lauryn Hill, why do you rent? Couldn’t buy a house with those millions, huh? And tax evasion? Really? Okay, let’s try to reserve our judgments.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that she is also facing up to three years in prison for failing to file three years worth of tax returns between 2005 through 2007 on $1.8 million in income.

The “Doo Wop (That Thing)” songstress explained why she didn’t file taxes as part of an effort to go “underground” from perceived dangers last year on her Tumblr page.

“Obviously, the danger I faced was not accepted as reasonable grounds for deferring my tax payments, as authorities, who despite being told all of this, still chose to pursue action against me, as opposed to finding an alternative solution.”

In any case, she is due in court on April 22 for sentencing.
