If Perry hits her expected sales, it will be the biggest yet since “Fireworks” made it to 509,000 downloads in its opening. Lady Gaga sales are estimated at 200,000 to 225,000 reports Billboard for her single “Applause”. Has the singer’s absence effect her little monsters? Gaga even released the track early in what she called a “pop music emergency”. The singer had to take a small hiatus due to a hip injury. “Applause” is the first single off of her upcoming ARTPOP.

I’m sure that Katy Perry and Lady Gaga weren’t planning on going head to head, but now that both of their singles have popped up online, many are wondering which pop queen will take the crown.

Lady Gaga’s last studio album, Born This Way, came out in 2011 and was led by the single of the same name. The song debuted at number on on the Digital Songs chart with 448,000 downloads in three days. Perry’s  Teenage Dream from 2010 was led by the single “California Girls” featuring Snoop Dogg. The single had 294,000 downloads and debuted at number one.

Katy Perry’s Prism hits shelves on October 22, while Gaga’s ARTPOP drops on November 11.

Gaga’s ARTPOP artwork was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. She is seen in artistic face paint straight from her upcoming music video. “It’s the end of the night after the show,” said Lady Gaga.  “When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, something more honest.”

The singer has been out of the spotlight due to her surgical procedure. “My injury was actually a lot worse that just a labral tear,” she tells Women’s Wear Daily. “I had broken my hip. Nobody knew, and I haven’t even told the fans yet. But when we got all the MRIs finished before I went to surgery there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip. I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage. The surgeon told me that if I had done another show I might have needed a full hip replacement. I would have been out at least a year, maybe longer.”

Gaga explains that it took six months for her to train her brain and body. During this time, she worked on creative projects to prepare for the upcoming album, ARTPOP.

Along with the photo, came a post where she wrote, “It’s a scary thing to revisit the things underneath, the pain in your past, but all I found was raw passion.” The singer continued, “I thought I was destroyed inside. I’m just ready to fight. Start the music.”

Gaga is known for her elaborate stage costumes and makeup. In the photo, she shows off her pale complexion that contrasts sharply with her dark hair. She almost looks unrecognizable. Gaga has ventured out before and showcased a makeup-less face. In fact, she did so on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar and on her Twitter page. “Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside,” she revealed to the fashion magazine. 

On Monday, a photo of the singer in the nude for V Magazine hit the web also. The totally nude spread was shot by Dutch fashion photographers Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadi.

Lady Gaga is gearing up to drop the first single off of her highly anticipated album, ARTPOP, on August 19.

Lady Gaga has shared a time-lapse video of the Born This Way Ball stage construction. Check it out below.

The ‘Born This Way’ singer released the video on 27 April 2013, in order to mark the one year anniversary of the Born This Way Ball world tour, which started on 27 April 2012.

The clip shows Gaga’s crew setting up the stage, testing the lights and letting the audience into the stadium before Gaga performs on the stage.

After, the crew then deconstruct the entire set. The video takes three and a half minutes to show the entire process, and uses Gaga’s song ‘Scheiße’ as the soundtrack.

Sadly, Gaga’s world tour was cut short this year as the singer had to get hip surgery and stay in a wheelchair – which meant that she had to cancel the remaining dates.

A source recently told Life & Style that she “won’t be back in action until September,” and that she’s feeling frustrated by the lack of touring.

“She’s relaxing and rehabbing,” the source said. “She actually just started walking again, which is great.”

They continued, “She has a bunch of projects she wants to roll on, but she needs clearance from her doctors. It’s really frustrating her.”

Bad news for the little monsters, Lady Gaga is suffering from a painful injury that has left her unable to walk, forcing the postponement of several shows.

“I’ve been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for sometime now, over the past month it has worsened,” tweeted Lady Gaga on Tuesday afternoon. “I’ve been praying it would heal.” The singer suffers from synovitis, a severe inflammation of joints, according to her Twitter updates. She has given no details on how she suffered the injury.

She also tweeted that she hid the injury from her staff as well. “I didn’t want to disappoint my amazing fans,” she tweeted. “However after last nights performance I could not walk and still can’t.” Gaga is currently on the “Born This Way” World Tour that recently stopped in Montreal Canada on Monday night where the pain from the injury seemed to reach it’s height.

“It will hopefully heal as soon as possible, I hate this. I hate this so much. I love you and I’m sorry,” she added. Her next week shows in Chicago, Detroit, and Hamilton, Ontario, have been postponed under doctor’s orders. “To the fans in Chicago Detroit & Hamilton I hope you can forgive me, as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself. I’m devastated & sad,” the singer tweeted.

Looks like Lindsay Lohan isn’t the only celebrity in the court room. Pop icon, Lady Gaga was in court recently for accusations of unpaid wages by her former assistant, Jennifer O’Neal. The singer said some not so nice words while under oath about the ex-employee on Thursday.

Lady Gaga called her former assistant, Jennifer O’Neal  a “f—king hoodrat who is suing me for money she didn’t earn”.  Lady Gaga had a lot to say about the allegations. “She thinks she’s just like the queen of the universe,” said Gaga. “And, you know what, she didn’t want to be a slave to one, because in my work and what I do, I’m the queen of the universe every day.”

The singer kept ranting in court later referring to O’Neal as a “disgusting human being.” She added, “She knew there was no overtime, and I never paid her overtime the first time I hired her, so why would she be paid overtime the second time? This whole case is bull—t and you know it.”

Jennifer O’Neal is suing the Born This Way singer for $393,000 in unpaid overtime. The lawsuit was filed in November of 2011 in Manhattan. O’Neal’s claims also include damages and 7,168 hours overtime.

It’s no surprise that Lady Gaga would be sued who is worth $52 million according to Forbes.

Pop princess Lady Gaga was stripped of millions of YouTube views when the video sharing site cleared out accounts it deemed created by hackers and bots.

Lady Gaga has lost 156 million views across her entire network of videos, losing one of the highest totals out of all entertainers. The crackdown comes after YouTube already stripped Sony and Universial records of 2 billion views across all their videos and networks because YouTube stated that many of the videos migrated to the company’s VEVO pages were “dead videos”.

Another portion of the stripped views from Sony and Universal were due to what YouTube calls “de-spamming the data.”

Many of the Youtube views were taken away as a result of Sony, Universal and EMI’s decision to bet on VEVO.

Lady Gaga was not the only artist affected by YouTube’s views cleanup, other entertainers include Beyonce, Michael Jackson and Chris Brown. At the time of the original clean-up, singer Leona Lewis lost 24 million views.

Sporting latex is risky business which Lady Gaga found out the hard way during her latest concert in Vancouver, Canada.

The sexy pop star was performing her hit song “Heavy Metal Lover” at the Rogers Arena when she hopped on a motorcycle causing her black Versace latex pants to split up the back and exposing her butt. The singer apparently took it in stride and didn’t falter in her performance, finishing the song as if nothing happened.

Gaga also made headlines on the Canadian leg of her tour when she took to the stage sporting a bra featuring large plastic assault rifles; a move many thought was disrespectful to victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.

Never one to shy away from controversy, Gaga has also engaged in a public feud with Kelly Osbourne for her role of E!’s Fashion Police. Most recently she tweeted, “My letter to @MissKellyO was open, because her statements on cyber-bulling were public & as a youth activist I’m compelled to be involved.”

What started out as a feud between Lady Gaga and Kelly Osbourne has turned into a family affair as mom Sharon Osbourne throws her two cents in.

The trouble started when Gaga posted a letter to Kelly OSbourne on her website in response to a comment made by Osbourne on her TV show Fashion Police.

“Your work on E! with the Fashion Police is rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another. ‘Appearance’ is the most used reason for bullying in the world.” Lady Gaga, who regularly campaigns against bullying, went on to say, “It used to make me truly sad when I would hear people talk about your weight when you were younger, as I was bullied too. To see you blossoming into a beautiful slender woman who makes fun of others for a living is astounding.”

Sharon was quick to fire back calling the singer “a publicity seeking hypocrite and an attention seeker” and letting her know “it would have been much more dignified of you to do this privately” rather than sharing an open letter with her 32 million followers.

Lady Gaga took to her Twitter account, where she’s followed by 32,689,621 people around the world, to announce her new upcoming unnamed documentary and “ARTPOP” album. The tweet read “Merry Christmas little monsters! Terry Richardson@Terry_World is making a #LadyGagaMOVIE documenting my life, the creation of ARTPOP + you!”

Lady Gaga did not give any more details or date after that tweet but it was enough to drive fans into a wild frenzy, getting over 11K retweets and 6K favorites on the social network. Lady Gaga then thanked her fans, saying “Thank you for being so patient waiting for my new album ARTPOP I hope this gets u excited for things to come. I love you with all my heart!” Not stopping there, Lady Gaga also thanked Terry Richardson saying, “I love you @Terry_World thank you for believing in me and my fans, I have looked up to you and your work for so long, its a dream come true!”
