Johnny Depp is headed back to the big screen. Depp has been cast as the infamous gangster Whitey Bulger in the upcoming film “Black Mass.” The film is Adapted from Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill’s non-fiction book of the same name, “Black Mass,” and will be directed by Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”).

“I could not be more thrilled to have the biggest star in the world and Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson to finally bring this incredible story to the big screen,” producer Brian Oliver said in a statement. “‘Black Mass’ expertly details the twists and turns of this highly complex story, painting a vivid portrait of Boston’s underbelly and its corrupt political machine, as well as exposing the worstscandal in FBI history. It’s also an examination of loyalty to family, Irish heritage, and South Boston.”

Bulger, 83, was infamous for his mobster past in Boston and for snitching on fellow mobsters as an FBI informant. Bulger was finally arrested in 2011 and faces several charges for murder and racketeering in the ’70s and ’80s.

The movie still does not have a release date, and “Black Mass” is to begin shooting in May. The film is to be produced and financed by Cross Creek Pictures and Exclusive Media, while Universal will be responsible for distribution.

Johnny Depp is a true renaissance man. Already well known for his acting and musical abilities Depp will now be adding publisher to his impressive resume. According to the Associated Press, Depp has teamed up with HarperCollins to create his imprint that will share the name Infinitum Nihil, nothing is forever, with his production company. First up for the imprint will be the release of ‘The Unraveled Tales of Bob Dylan.’ The work was written by best-selling author Douglas Brinkley and will tell the complete story of Dylan’s life and career. This will be the second collaboration between Depp and Brinkly, the two are working as co-editors on Woody Guthrie’s lost novel ‘House of the Earth’ about two farmers living in West Texas. The novel is expected to be released next January.  HarperCollins has said that Depp will be seeking “authentic, outspoken and visionary ideas and voices.” The first release for Infinitum Nihil is expected to hit stores in 2015.

Tragedy struck the set of Disney’s next blockbuster ‘Lone Ranger’ starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. The studio issued a statement today confirming that a crew member has died after drowning on the movie’s set. “We regretfully confirm that a Lone Ranger crew member has passed away after being taken to a local hospital. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time, and our full support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this terrible event.” According to celebrity gossip site TMZ the crew member was a diver who was working in a tank when an accident occurred. 911 one called and when help arrived the man was already in cardiac arrest. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital by doctors who were unable to resuscitate him. The movie, which is expected to hit theaters next July, is currently filming in Los Angeles, cameras were not rolling at the time of the accident.

Prolific actor Johnny Depp has just released a statement full of praise for Jonathan Frid , the actor best known for playing Barnabas Collins on the soap opera “Dark Shadows” and who died last Friday. Johnny Depp plays the very same character in Tim Burton’s film adaptation of “Dark Shadows”, which hits theaters this May.

Depp said in a statement “Jonathan Frid was the reason I used to run home from school to watch ‘Dark Shadows. When I had the honor to finally meet him, as he so generously passed the torch of Barnabas to me, he was as elegant and magical as I had always imagined.  My deepest condolences to his family and friends. The world has lost a true original.”
