The man behind the film “Glengarry Glen Ross” is taking on some new material and has signed on Al Pacino to play the role of the controversial music producer Phil Spector. Playwright David Mamet will write and direct “Phil Spector” an imagined story of the relationship between Spector and the attorney who defended him against the charge of murdering his wife in 2003.

It was an unexpected subject of interest for Mamet who had initially dismissed Spector as a lunatic, but in watching a documentary about the legendary music producer, came to think of him as brilliant and began to question whether he was truly guilty of murder.

Helen Mirren will star alongside Al Pacino as Linda Kenney Baden, the attorney who defended Spector through both of his murder trials.  Spector, changed the world of pop music back in the 1960’s working with acts like the Beatles, Leonard Cohen and the Ronettes, he is currently serving a 19 year prison sentence.

HBO cancelled it’s Dustin Hoffman horse racing series only “Luck” after only one season last year due to the tragic deaths of three horses. The network is now being accused of trying to cover up the alleged inhumane treatment of the animals.

Barbara Casey, who worked for the American Humane Association’s film  and television unit for thirteen years, is suing the network and the show’s producer, Stewart Production. She claims they tried to cover up the alleged abuse and safety violations of the animals. Per the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Casey also alleges the production team wrongfully terminated her after she blew the whistle on the horses’ mistreatment.

The complaint states that the animal welfare organization witnessed drugged horses that were oftentimes sick and underweight. She claimed that HBO and Stewart productions perssured the AHA hierarchy to let them violate safety standards “in order to save money” and “minimize any disruption to its production schedule”. The suit claims that the AHA ultimately ignored Casey’s protests and her wish to report the horse’s abuse.

Casey was fired in January 2012, as she claims was due to her protests. Casey’s suit seeks general and punitive damages. HBO denies the allegations saying, “we took every precaution to ensure that our horses were treated humanely and with the utmost care.”

HBO announced this week that legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has signed on to produce and direct an upcoming documentary about the 43rd president of the United States, Bill Clinton. Also signing on for the film is multimillionaire producer Steve Bing. Bing was both producer and financier for Scorsese’s 2008 Rolling Stones documentary “Shine a Light” and is also a huge Clinton supporter donating to the William J. Clinton Foundation and Hillary Clinton’s various campaigns.
The film will focus on Clinton’s perspectives on history and politics as well as his time in the oval office and is being made with the full support of Clinton himself. Scorsese expressed his excitement over the project in a statement saying that Bill Clinton is “A towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues, President Clinton continues to shape the political dialogue both here and around the world. Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure.”

And here we go. HBO has just released the very first teaser trailer to their wildly popular Game Of Thrones series. This will be the third season and there’s quite a few story lines that rabid fans can’t wait to find out about. Of course they could always read the book, but that’s neither here or there I suppose. The new trailer for the upcoming Game Of Thrones season is rather short, coming in at just 15 seconds, but it packs quite a bit of punch.

In the trailer we can hear a woman’s voice saying “The great war is between death and life, ice and fire. If we lose, the night will never end.” We don’t get to see any epic upcoming fights or anything, just the title and the date the next season is expected to start. The second Game Of Thrones book was so long that HBO decided to split it into two seasons, so expect the rest of the Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire to start on March 13, 2013
