It was announced today that the production company for Quentin Tarantino’s new movie Django Unchained has cancelled the movie’s Hollywood premiere, making it the third major film this week to forgo the usual opening festivities. Jack Reacher, the new Tom Cruise movie from Christopher McQuarrie has also reportedly removed certain scenes from its promotional materials in light of the massacre in Connecticut last week.
Django unlimited was set to premiere tonight in Los Angeles but instead will be shown in a private screening to cast and crew of the film. The Weinstein Company, who produced the movie, issued a statement explaining; “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Newton, Connecticut, and in this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event.”
Scenes of Tom Cruise shooting a semi-automatic weapon have reportedly been removed from all promotional footage for Jack Reacher ahead of its Christmas Day release.

“American Chopper” has been a reality television staple for ten years but the Teutul family will be saying goodbye this season as Discovery has decided to cancel the long-running program.

“After 10 years and 233 episodes of incredible, riveting reality television, American Chopper will be ending its run. This series was one of the very first family-based reality programs on television.” Discovery told EW today. The show follows the Teutul family and their custom motorcycle shop and has gained much of its following from the drama provided by the tension between Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. that resulted, for several seasons, into two rival motorcycle shops. Father and son have since reunited and the show has focused primarily this season on the two reconciling their differences. The series will end with a live special in which rival bike builders like Jesse James will compete against the Teutals in Las Vegas, it is slated to air on December 11^th.

New York City is doing it’s very best to get back to business as usual but despite everyone’s best efforts Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced today that that NYC marathon would be canceled this year because of the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. The mayor issued a statement today saying; “While holding the race would not require diverting resources from the recovery effort, it is clear that it has become the source of controversy and division. The marathon has always brought our city together and inspired us with stories of courage and determination. We would not want a cloud to hang over the race or its participants, and so we have decided to cancel it.”

The cancellation came as a surprise to many as just earlier today Bloomberg held a televised conference to insist that the marathon would take place, saying to viewers that “New York has to show we are here and we are going to recover,” insisting that the race would give “people something to cheer aboutin what has been a dismal week for a lot of people.”

The race was supposed to start Sunday on Staten Island and traverse all 5 boroughs but public pressure has made Mayor Bloomberg rethink his stance. “We cannot allow a controversy over an athletic event, even one as meaningful as this, to distract attention away from all the critically important work that is being done to recover from the storm and get our city back on track.”

As many New Yorkers still struggle today with limited power and transportation, not to mention limited access to food and gas it seems like a wise decision on Mayor Bloomberg’s part to not tempt fate by stretching New York City resources any thinner than they already are.
