For the first time since the lip-syncing controversy, Beyonce finally spoke out to the media. In a press conference about her upcoming Super Bowl performance, the singer belted out “The Star-Spangled Banner” fora room full of  the press.

Knowles, dressed in a white long sleeve dress, simply walked to the patio and kindly asked the media  audience, “Will you all please stand?” At that time, she performed the song that she lip-synced at the Inauguration of President Obama. With no background music, Beyonce proved that she’s the real deal.

“I am a perfectionist,” explained Beyonce. “And one thing about me: I practice ’till my feet bleed. I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live television show ..Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check ..I did not feel comfortable singing live.” The singer admitted to singing along to a “prerecorded track”, but assures that she will “absolutely be singing live” at the Super Bowl.

The lip-syncing controversy erupted when a U.S Marine Band member said that Beyonce wasn’t singing live and the band’s accompanying performance was taped. The organization quickly backed off stating that no one could tell if she was singing live or not.

Beyonce is preparing for half time performance and has dropped several teaser photos and videos of her rehearsals. This performance will be the biggest audience of her career. Last year, Madonna’s halftime performance was the most-watched Super Bowl show ever with an average of 114 million viewers. It earned more viewers than the game itself, which was the most watched U.S TV event in history.

The Queen of Soul has a thing or two to say about the Beyonce lip syncing ordeal. Aretha Franklin told ABC News that when she heard the performance may have been lip synced to a pre-recorded track, she “really laughed”.

“I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather,” said Aretha Franklin. She sympathized with Beyonce because she faced similar issues when she performed “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee” for President Obama’s Inauguration in 2009. “I thought it was real funny, but she did a beautiful job with the pre-record ..next time I’ll probably do the same.”

Aretha went on to talk about her experience at the 2009 Inauguration. “I wanted to give people the real thing and pre-recording never crossed my mind,” she said. “I think it’s optional really, it’s up to the artist. In 2009, I wanted everything to be live and on the real side for the moment as it actually happened. Those were my feelings for my performance, but having come face to face with 28, 22 degrees I am not surprised she pre-recorded.”

The questioning came after a Marine Corps representative said that Beyonce did not have the time to rehearse with the band, stating a live performance would have been “ill-advised”.

Beyonce has yet to speak about the lip syncing controversy.
