Forbes released its list of highest earning musicians this week and many of the top five may come as a surprise to music fans. Leading the pack at $110 million between May of 2011 and May of 2012 was rapper Dr. Dre, though it must be said that most of the income came from business investments like Beats by Dre., rather than from recording music.

Roger Waters, founding member of Pink Floyd, came in second place with $88 million, much of which comes from his constant touring and performance of “The Wall” in its entirety. Rounding out the top 5 were Elton John, $80 million, Irish rockers U2 with $78 million and Take That at $69 million.

Britney Spears ranked as the highest earning female last year coming in at 7 with $58 million. Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney tied for 8th place with a cool $57 million apiece. Justin Bieber finished up the top ten with $55 million.

The Nielson ratings are in and its looking like it will be a great season for television network CBS. Of the top 20 program slots, CBS took top viewership for 10 and had the two most watched series premiers this year. According to Nielson Co. CBS’s new drama ‘Vegas’ premiered in 6th place and their updated remake of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories ‘Elementary’ came in 10th place. It’s closest competitor, ABC’s ‘Last Resort’ came in in 32nd place. Also making the top ten were CBS favorites NCIS, at number 2 and beat only by Sunday night football, NCIS: Los Angeles in 4th place and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ in 5th. According to the Nielson polls CBS had 10.69 million viewers for premiere week followed by ABC with 8.33 million and NBC with 8.19 million viewers. The only place where CBS faltered this week was among their news broadcasting. NBC’s ‘Nightly News’ took top viewership with ABC’s ‘World News’ running a close second. CBS’s “CBS Evening News” garnered only 6.15 million viewers or a 4.2 rating.
